Italian telecommunications infrastructure provider Retelit has teamed up with BICS, a Belgium-based global wholesale carrier, to announce a joint connectivity service that will bridge Europe, via Bari in Italy, to Singapore and Hong Kong through the Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) subsea cable system. Combining their respective infrastructures across Italy and Europe, Retelit and BICS have developed a new backhaul product to satisfy high capacity connectivity demand from Asia, the Middle East and Africa to Milan, Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris and other key European locations with what it claims is the lowest latency in the market.

Retelit recently invested EUR 100,000 to acquire a 9.5 percent stake in the Open Hub Med (OHM) consortium, described as the first neutral data exchange hub in Italy, to maximise the industrial and commercial potential of the AAE-1 submarine cable.
