Retelit at Mediterranean Strategic Growth Forum

06 February 2017Press releases

The event - organised by EY - will be attended by institutions and businesses and explore development opportunities in the Mediterranean area.

Federico Protto, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Retelit, will be a guest at the latest edition of the Mediterranean Strategic Growth Forum held by EY in Rome this coming February 9 and 10. The event is a major opportunity for business people, investors, government officials, innovators and opinion leaders to explore the economic growth opportunities and investment potential of the Mediterranean basin. During the two days of the forum, Protto will meet with representatives from the academic and institutional world and businesses from Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, India and China and will participate, as guest speaker, in a panel scheduled for February 9 at 4PM called “Secure connections within the Mediterranean Area”. The session is dedicated to issues related to infrastructure, support technology, digital transformation, energy efficiency, security and cyber security for the Mediterranean area. At the roundtable, Protto will have the opportunity to outline and speak about dedicated investments and the international collaboration involved in the construction of the AAE-1 submarine cable. Connected to Retelit’s landing station in Bari last May 6, it is today the longest - indeed with 25 thousand kilometers of fiber - and fastest submarine cable in the world, capable of connecting over 40% of the global population. “In a period of such profound economic and political change globally and particularly in the Mediterranean - stated Protto - co-operation between actors and partners at all levels becomes fundamental in order to provide services which enable not only local but global growth. In this regard, the construction of this submarine infrastructure, the AAE-1 system, highlights the centrality of the Mediterranean basin between Europe and the new actors in the area and the Middle and Far East.”
