Under the partnership, BICS acquires from Retelit 60 Gbps of the AAE-1 cable’s submarine capacity

Retelit S.p.A. announces the signing of a strategic and commercial partnership with BICS (Belgacom International Carrier Services) for the creation of a joint network services (Bari-Europe Backhaul) offer, and the sale to the Belgian telecommunications player of 60 Gbps of the AAE-1 cable’s submarine capacity. BICS is a leading global telecommunications player, with over 112 Points of Presence in over 70 countries and capacity on 19 submarine cables, carrying through its network a significant amount of global voice, mobile and data/internet traffic. Retelit, in partnership with BICS, launches a new 100Gbps (Backhaul) connectivity product, enabling AAE-1 consortium members and their Customers to connect at very high capacity and low latency - through Retelit’s Bari landing station - to the main European Data Centers, including those in the Milan region. The solution is highly innovative both from a technological and commercial model viewpoint: technologically, as based on latest generation infrastructure built by two operators bringing together separate sets of expertise; commercially, as the only product provided transparently and end to end from Bari to the European Data Centers. The partnership involves the sale of the product through a single contract and a single SLA (Service Level Agreement) and according to a single price structure for all European destinations. The Chief Executive Officer of Retelit, Federico Protto stated: “We are highly satisfied with this partnership agreement with such a major international player as BICS, which indeed highlights the strength of our network and the highly strategic nature of the AAE-1 project. This agreement adds further value to the AAE-1 cable investment - following on from the recent entry into the Open Hub Med consortium. Finally, the fact that our partner is willing to invest significantly in the AAE-1 cable - sharing our commitment to this important project - further confirms the solid basis of the partnership”.
