Press Releases

Quadrivium Digital, the innovative provider of carrier-neutral interconnection data centres and subsea landing infrastructure, and Retelit, the leading Italian telecommunications company focused on the B2B market, today announced a strategic partnership for the launch of a new point of presence (PoP) that will elevate Genoa’s status as a cornerstone of Mediterranean connectivity and as a new global gateway into continental Europe.

The collaboration between the two operators will enable the development of cutting-edge digital infrastructures, laying the foundation for increasingly advanced services to support businesses, carriers, and international providers.

This partnership marks a bold step toward the launch of QGEN01, Quadrivium’s flagship data centre in Genoa, slated to go live in Q4 2025. Designed to redefine regional connectivity, QGEN01 will be Genoa’s first carrier-neutral interconnection facility. It will feature 12 MW of IT power, cutting-edge subsea landing infrastructure—including a borepipe, beach manhole, and dedicated fronthaul—with the capacity to host 8 new submarine cable systems.

Retelit, leveraging its extensive network and its Avalon Campus, the largest Italian interconnection hub located in Via Caldera in Milan, will project Quadrivium’s new data center to the heart of the Italian Internet via a two fully diverse and redundant high-capacity fiber optic routes that will connect Quadrivium’s data center to Retelit Avalon Campus. This location is also one of Southern Europe’s most important digital infrastructure hubs, hosting the majority of telecom operators, cloud providers, OTT platforms, and streaming services—all easily accessible for interconnection. QGEN01 will also benefit from a direct connection to MIX, Italy’s main Internet Exchange Point, which includes more than 400 connected networks, through Retelit’s Avalon Campus.

This collaboration with Quadrivium Digital represents an opportunity for Retelit to expand its connectivity and data center offering to connect international companies and operators to Italy with a footprint in Genoa, to respond to the growing demand for high-performance, distributed digital infrastructure capable of supporting modern applications that require real-time processing and large-scale data management, especially in locations, such as QGEN01, where international traffic aggregate.

Customers colocated at the Quadrivium Data Center will be able to take full advantage of Retelit’s high-performance network infrastructure which enables seamless and reliable transport of data from the Genoa Metro Area to global destinations across Retelit’s extensive network footprint.

Genoa is rapidly becoming a major European landing hub and the new gateway into mainland Europe for submarine cables connecting Asia and Africa, attracting systems like Blue Raman/ BlueMed, 2Africa, and numerous regional cables. Quadrivium and Retelit’s alliance, which represents an important step in the development of Italy’s digital ecosystem, aims to unlock new routes from Asia and Africa into Europe, and resilient pathways into Europe’s heartland and the FLAP metros.

Our partnership with Retelit signals a transformative moment for Mediterranean connectivity. QGEN01 isn’t just another data centre—it’s a catalyst for a new peering ecosystem that unites submarine cables, global carriers, hyperscalers, and IXPs. While European peering has long been concentrated in inland metros—with Marseille as the lone coastal outlier—Genoa is now poised to take the stagestated Aditya Ayyagari, CEO of Quadrivium DigitalWith QGEN01, we’re not just providing landing and interconnection diversity; we’re shaping one of Europe’s future digital capitals. Partnering with a visionary infrastructure leader like Retelit is exactly what we need to bring this vision to life.

We’re excited to announce the upcoming opening of a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Quadrivium’s new data center in Genoa. This initiative is part of Retelit’s infrastructure expansion strategy and strengthens our presence in a key region for both national and international data traffic. Genoa is playing an increasingly central role in Europe’s digital landscape thanks to its geographic location, making it an ideal landing point for new submarine cables connecting the Mediterranean to major global hubs,” said Diego Teot, Head of OTT, Media & Telco at Retelit. “Customers colocated at the Quadrivium Data Center can now benefit from Retelit’s network, enabling the seamless transport of their traffic from the Genoa Metro Area to any destination worldwide covered by Retelit. Connectivity is available through Dark Fiber, Wavelength, or Ethernet solutions, offering maximum flexibility and performance.
