The proprietary infrastructure on which hyperscalers and cloud providers grow
Fibre optic backbone, submarine systems and AI-ready carrier-neutral data centres on which hyperscalers, OTTs and cloud providers build their presence in Italy and their connectivity towards Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Proprietary infrastructure for global digital ecosystems.
Italy is today a strategic hub in the Mediterranean: its geographic position, the concentration of cable landing stations across several coastal points and the growth of the metropolitan cloud ecosystem make it a natural transit hub for east-west data flows between Europe, Asia and Africa. At the same time, regulatory pressure on sovereign cloud, the AI Act and NIS2 is pushing cloud providers and hyperscalers to localise physical infrastructure on European soil, with Italian jurisdiction as an explicit requirement for a growing share of enterprise and Public Administration workloads.
Retelit responds with an entirely proprietary infrastructure perimeter: a national network, AI-ready carrier-neutral data centres, direct access to the main Internet Exchanges and submarine systems with 8 cable landing stations. Unlike models based on third-party capacity, Retelit manages network, data centres and international backbone under a single technical and contractual perimeter, with provisioning automation through industry-standard APIs and digital marketplaces to reduce inter-carrier activation times.
The requirements of hyperscalers, cloud providers and OTTs.
What global digital ecosystems ask today of their Italian infrastructure partner, from backbone planning to the resilience of international routes.
High-density transport capacity for AI and cloud regions
The expansion of cloud regions and the growth of artificial intelligence workloads generate a demand for multi-terabit transport that requires high-density backbone, dedicated DWDM lambdas and geographically diversified paths between data centres, landing stations and Internet Exchanges. For those building AI-ready infrastructure, the availability of n×100G DWDM connections on physically separate paths is a design requirement, not an option.
Carrier-neutral interconnection and digital ordering
Proximity to peering hubs reduces sub-optimal routing, cost per gigabit and time-to-market. For carriers and hyperscalers operating on a global scale, the ability to activate Ethernet circuits, wavelengths and colocation through inter-carrier standard APIs or digital marketplaces is now an operational requirement: it reduces activation times from weeks to hours and enables direct integration with internal procurement systems.
Multi-cable submarine routes and geopolitical resilience
Data flows between Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa largely transit through the Mediterranean. The incidents suffered by submarine cables in recent years have shifted the planning of hyperscalers and carriers towards multi-cable and multi-landing strategies: more physically independent systems, diversified terrestrial backhaul and landing stations across multiple coastal points. Italy positions itself as a natural hub for east-west flows, with systems in service and new systems under development towards Greece and the Atlantic.

Six service families on which global hyperscalers, OTTs and cloud providers build digital presence in Italy, access to Asia-MEA markets and automation of infrastructure procurement.
Dark Fiber and WDM capacity
National and international backbone on proprietary fibre with high-performance transmission capacity, sized for the traffic of OTTs, CDNs and cloud providers and for the most intensive workloads. Diversified terrestrial and submarine paths make it possible to build resilient and scalable architectures between data centres, cable landing stations and European hubs.
Discover the serviceSubmarine systems, cable landing and international PoPs
Direct access to the main submarine systems of the Mediterranean, starting from the AAE-1 cable with landing in Bari and connection towards Hong Kong and the markets of Asia, the Middle East and Africa, complemented by the systems serving the routes towards Europe and the eastern Mediterranean. A new submarine system between Italy and Greece is under development, adding an independent route towards the Balkans. A network of cable landing stations and PoPs in the main European hubs completes international access.
Discover the serviceCarrier-neutral data centres and interconnection
A network of carrier-neutral data centres in Italy, with Avalon Campus as the country's leading interconnection hub and over 170 operators, OTTs and cloud providers already present. Scalable colocation spaces, AI-ready facilities in expansion and cross-connects towards the entire ecosystem, within sites certified to the highest levels of reliability and powered by renewable energy.
Discover the serviceIP Transit, peering and direct connect to the public clouds
Carrier-grade IP Transit, public and private peering towards the main Internet Exchanges and international carriers, with caching of the major content providers to reduce latency and cost per gigabit. Direct connections to the public clouds — Microsoft, Google and AWS — for hybrid and multicloud architectures that do not transit over the public Internet.
Discover the serviceE-Link, DWDM and international Express Routes
Dedicated Ethernet circuits and wavelength services on proprietary terrestrial and submarine fibre, with protection and diversified paths. The international Express Routes offer low-latency links and guaranteed performance towards the main European hubs, on physically independent routes between data centres and cable landing stations.
Discover the serviceMPLIFY APIs, marketplace and digital ordering
Automated quoting and ordering through industry-standard APIs and digital marketplaces, to integrate the purchase of connectivity and colocation directly into the procurement systems of international carriers. A digital experience designed to reduce the time between order and activation and to simplify the management of infrastructure services.
Discover the serviceRegulatory compliance for sovereign cloud regions.
Hyperscalers and cloud providers building Italian regions or delivering services to enterprises and Public Administration operate within an articulated regulatory perimeter: NIS2, GDPR, the AI Act, the Data Act and ACN Qualified Cloud. Retelit's data centres, submarine systems and infrastructure services are certified and periodically verified by independent third parties, ensuring a documented and traceable compliance framework along the entire supply chain.
