The "best in class" data centers: Avalon Campus and Settimo Milanese

Avalon Campus and the Settimo Milanese data center are the flagship sites of Retelit's infrastructure: certified facilities with high connectivity density, chosen by the leading enterprise organizations operating in Italy to ensure operational continuity and performance for their most critical workloads.

Avalon Campus is the largest carrier-neutral interconnection hub in Italy. It is a complex of ten buildings certified up to Tier IV, connected by proprietary optical fiber and managed as a single redundant infrastructure. The campus hosts over 170 operators, carriers, ISPs and global OTTs, and offers a peering and colocation ecosystem with direct access to the main national and international network nodes.

The Settimo Milanese data center, set to join the campus under the name Avalon 5, is an AI-ready facility certified Tier IV, acquired by Retelit in 2025 as part of the takeover of BT Italia's Italian assets. Designed to support high-performance computing workloads, it already hosts some of the country's leading enterprise organizations and represents a concrete answer to the growing demand for scalable, high-performance digital infrastructure.

Regional data centers: a widespread network

Retelit operates an ecosystem of 38 data centers distributed across Italy, located in strategic areas for businesses: Milan, Bergamo, Bolzano, Brescia, Verona, Turin, Savona, Genoa, Modena, Bologna, Parma, Treviso, Trento, Udine, Naples, Rome and Viterbo.

Such widespread geographic distribution is a deliberate choice that brings infrastructure closer to the territories where businesses create value: this translates into lower latency, better performance and more reliable digital services.

The network also includes Edge Data Centers, designed to bring data and applications closer to the customer and to support edge-to-core architectures. All Retelit data centers offer hyperconnected spaces, integrated with the proprietary network and connected to the leading hyperscalers and Internet Exchanges, both Italian and international. This guarantees data sovereignty, together with geographic redundancy and continuity for critical applications.

Completing the offering is a network of qualified partners distributed across the country, allowing Retelit to extend coverage to further geographic areas and to activate new capacity where needed, reducing time-to-market.

New investments in data center infrastructure: 350 million euros for Italy's digital infrastructure

Retelit has launched a structured investment plan of 350 million euros to strengthen its data center network in Italy, in support of cloud, edge computing and artificial-intelligence workloads. A project built around two complementary lines of action: upgrading existing data centers and building new, latest-generation facilities.

Work on the already-operational data centers involves increasing installed power, expanding space and upgrading technology components, alongside improvements to quality certifications, with the aim of delivering infrastructure that is increasingly reliable, scalable and energy-efficient.

On the new-build front, the strategic focus is on the Milan metropolitan area. In Milano Bisceglie, integrated into the Avalon 3 campus, two new AI-ready data centers will be built, designed to host high-intensity computing workloads and advanced cloud services. In Corsico, the new Avalon 4 data center will further expand the campus's overall capacity, contributing to significant growth of the national infrastructure.

Located in Savona, Genoa, Bari, Marseille and Barcelona, they are strategic nodes of Retelit's international connectivity. Integrated with the network and the data centers, they give direct access to the main global traffic flows, with low latency and high resilience.

They enable operational resilience, low latency and always-on services through compute proximity. A fault-tolerant, autonomous architecture that ensures continuity and real-time responses even in the event of network disruptions.

Natively integrated with Retelit's proprietary network and with the leading Italian and international Internet Exchanges. Retelit data centers use energy from renewable sources, supporting an infrastructure model that is mindful of the environment and geared toward long-term sustainability. In the Business Factory, the cooling system draws groundwater from below 40 meters in summer and uses free cooling in winter, with the water then returned to the local area for agricultural irrigation.
