Axent and Retelit sign a strategic agreement to enhance connectivity between Spain and Italy

Axent, a Spanish wholesale telecom infrastructure operator specializing in connectivity services, and Retelit, a leading Italian telecommunications company focused on the B2B market, have joined forces to strengthen connectivity between Spain and Italy with a redundant infrastructure from Madrid to Milan, passing through Barcelona, Marseille and Genoa.
The agreement, which aims to leverage both companies' infrastructure resources, will enable them to expand network coverage and enhance their connectivity service offerings.
Specifically, Axent, leveraging Retelit’s extensive international network along with its landing stations and submarine cables, is expanding its coverage to Italy with scalable new redundant 100 Gbps routes: the first is a terrestrial link connecting Marseille to Milan, and the second is a submarine route from Barcelona—where it already operates at key traffic hubs (Barcelona CLS, Equinix BA1, Edged Energy BCN, and EdgeConnex)—to Milan via Genoa.
At the same time, Retelit will leverage Axent’s resilient and robust network—recognized as a leading provider for data center connectivity—to strengthen its footprint on the Iberian Peninsula with a new 100 Gbps route from Madrid to Barcelona CLS, the cable landing station for the 2Africa submarine cable also known as MedConnect. For MedConnect Retelit already built a redundant fronthaul in Genoa and acquired spectrum on the route, integrated with its terrestrial transport network up to Milan to offer 100 Gbps DWDM solutions.
Thanks to this agreement, Axent will benefit from increased capacity and redundancy on key routes to Milan. This will improve network resilience and latency while expanding Axent's portfolio of value-added services for its customers. The combined use of submarine capacity, which is inherently uninterrupted, offers extremely low latency and high reliability.
Retelit will be able to offer its customers direct connectivity services from Madrid to Milan, optimizing performance and reducing latency on key European routes.
"The agreement with Axent once again demonstrates Retelit's strong international positioning, as a key partner for international operators to expand their capacity and service offering, thanks to the quality of its infrastructure and the high level of customization of its solutions." commented Diego Teot, Head of OTT, Media&Telco at Retelit. "The global distribution of traffic must meet various diversification criteria, making the Mediterranean an increasingly important traffic exchange hub. The direct connection between these key cities enhances international connectivity, ensuring low latency and high reliability and further strengthens the Italy’s strategic role as a crossroads of connecting infrastructure in the Mediterranean."
“As part of our international expansion strategy, Axent is strengthening its presence in Europe with the launch of a new route that reach as far as Italy, in particular Milan, heart of Italian Internet traffic and strategic location for interconnection with national and international telco operators, Carrier & OTT. This milestone follows the establishment of our first PoP in Marseille, France, further enhancing our network and connectivity capabilities. Axent will be able to provide connectivity services with redundant and direct connections from Barcelona to Milan” said Pen Yang, CCO of Axent, “This achievement reinforces our commitment to expansion and innovation. In the coming months, we will continue growing our European network, with new PoPs in strategic cities such as Paris and Lisbon.”
